The Mushroomers Credo When in doubt, throw it out! Though only a small percentage of North American mushrooms are deadly, your first mistake could be your last. For that reason, we encourage people to learn as much as they can about the interesting science of mycology, before experimenting with eating wild mushrooms on their own. Fortunately, many of the finest wild edibles are easy to identify with a little practice and the assistance of a field guide or two. The Central New York Mycological Society, its officers and members do not make any warranties as to the safety of consuming any wild mushroom and accept no responsibility for adverse effects from their consumption. We strongly discourage the use of any wild mushroom for the purpose of intoxication. It is as yet undetermined that toxic substances can build up in organ tissues such as the liver, causing potential long-term damage.
